Community Contributions

Autumn ArborFest
This Westerville Parks and Recreation community event is held in September at Alum Creek Park North.  It is a family event is dedicated to trees. Our garden club helps advertise and provides hands-on children’s activities. We also give away trees and assist visitors with further information.

Blue Star Memorial
Westerville Garden Club sponsored the Blue Star Memorial plaque and garden in Hanby Park. This memorial recognizes military members and their families. It is prominently located near the Presidential Oak Grove, the library, and the Ohio to Erie bike trail.

First Responders’ Park

Our club partners with the City of Westerville to plant and maintain the garden areas around the First Responders Memorial Park. This park provides a contemplative site with a section of the NYC Trade Center tower as the focal point.

Garden Therapy

Our club provides an activity each month at the Columbus Colony for Elderly Care in Westerville. While covid restrictions remained, we provided a seasonal ornament for each resident to enjoy in their room.

Gold Star Memorial Garden

Under construction! Our club will provide a Gold Star Memorial Garden as part of the Westerville Veterans’ Memorial Park. The dedication will be on Veterans’ Day, November 11th, 2022. Work and planting continues into spring 2023.

Hanby House Kitchen Garden

Our club designed, planted, and maintains this garden monthly, which has plants selected as authentic to a typical “kitchen garden” of the mid-1800’s. the Westerville Historical Society maintains the Hanby house and conducts many tours for school children and adults. We provide an educational brochure at the entrance for those who visit at other times.

Presidential Oak Grove

Our club initiated this grove of trees honoring the eight presidents from Ohio. A ninth tree has a plaque with a mirror asking, “Who will be next?”    In 2017 we added the Blue Star Memorial marker. Westerville Parks & Recreation Dept. maintains this at Hanby Park in Westerville. Our garden club and members provided three benches and additional items for the park as needed.

WesterFlora

Our club has organized WesterFlora, free garden tour each year for 31 years. We select 10-12 diverse gardens to highlight, coordinating with the Westerville Parks and Recreation and Hoover Gardens to advertise and support the homeowners and visitors. We provide ambassadors (club members) at each garden to assist visitors.
